Your home is a sanctuary where you and your family spend a lot of time in to rest and relax. However, if not properly maintained, your house can also be the source of your stress. Leaving your home poorly attended may also cause serious health problems to your family or even cause life threatening accidents. Below is a short checklist you should follow to keep your home a healthy and comfortable place to live.
Inspect your house regularly
Check areas around your house that may have problems or isn’t used on a daily basis. Look for potential problems such as changes in color, cracks, puddles, holes, and insects. Don’t only rely on your eyes, but also your other senses by looking for squeaking sounds or unfamiliar odor. The earlier you spot the problems, the better, so make sure to have your house checked time to time.
Dust consists of soil, dead skin cells, bacterias, and other things you wouldn’t like to hear. Dust can cause a lot of health problems towards your family, especially children if they are exposed to it for a long time. Fortunately, with regular housekeeping, dust is relatively easy to minimize. Vacuum your house a few times every week, and use protective masks when handling dust to prevent it from getting into your lungs.
Moisture may attract bacteria, mold, and pests into the house, so it’s best to keep it under control. Proper ventilation and fixing leaks are some of the things you can do to reduce humidity, so make sure to always check your sinks, pipes, and ventilations. Don’t forget to also check for leaks in the roof.
Clean air filters
Air filters are used in air conditioning systems to keep the pollution from outside from entering your house. However, dirty air filters may not function properly and lead to damage to your air conditioning systems or even a fire. It is relatively easy to keep your filter clean, you just have to take the filter out and clean or replace it.
Check electrical wiring
A wiring problem can cause someone to get shocked or even a fire in your house, and it may also break the electronic devices that you use. Have an electrician to check the wiring in your house once in every five years, and have it replaced or upgraded if needed.
